Our weight is something that causes a great deal of misery for many of us, with a large majority of people in the US literally obsessing over their weight on a daily basis. Keeping our weight under control is not easy, no matter what some smug, in-shape individuals would have us believe. If it really was as easy as some people make it out to be, the majority of people you see walking the streets would be lean and ripped, rather than overweight and unhealthy. Losing weight is not easy, but it is also not as hard as some people believe either, the trick is actually knowing what works best for you. If you’re looking to shape up and slim down in order to get yourself the body that you’ve always dreamt of, you need to know a few tried and tested weight loss tips from the experts. That have been proven to work time and time again.
Don’t diet! – This may sound pretty absurd, but studies have found that people whom embark on faddy diets, crash diets, or any other form of diet for that matter, are far more likely to gain any weight back which they may have lost, in a relatively short period of time. Rather than going on a diet and forcing yourself to eat foods you don’t enjoy, you should instead change your lifestyle and make healthy lifestyle choices. Eat foods you enjoy, just make sure they’re healthy and low in saturated fat. Try to get more exercise regularly and cut out processed junk foods that are rich in chemicals and additives.
Weigh yourself weekly – If you have access to more sophisticated weighing equipment, body fat callipers for example, try to use those instead, but if not, try to weigh yourself weekly. Ok, typical bathroom scales aren’t the best weight loss tool in the world as they only tell you your weight and therefore they don’t account for water retention or muscle mass. They are however, better than nothing and will give you a general idea about whether or not what you’re doing is working. If you weigh yourself and each week you find yourself gaining weight, there’s a strong chance that you’re doing things wrong. If the numbers continue to go down, you’re probably on the right course.
Snack, but snack smartly – If you feel hungry in-between meals, that’s your body’s way of telling you that it needs more nutrients and energy. If you feel hungry, don’t suffer, grab a snack, but ensure it’s a healthy snack. Forget about cakes, biscuits, chips, sweets etc, and instead go for healthy options such as fruit, yogurt, seeds, and nuts instead.
Eat fresh and healthy food, and get plenty of exercise – As with any weight loss program, the two main factors to consider are diet and exercise. Ensure your diet consists of fresh, healthy and natural food including lean meats, seafood, complex carbs, and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. On top of that, drink plenty of fresh water and exercise on a regular basis, at least three hours per week. You can go swimming, go to the gym, play sports, lift weights, go dancing, or anything else for that matter. If it increases your heart rate and makes you sweat, there’s a good chance that it’s beneficial for you.
