One aspect of breakfast that most people don’t seem to be aware of however, is that breakfast can actually help to improve the health of your heart, one of the most vital organs in the human body.
Eat heart healthy foods for a delicious breakfast – If you wish to improve the health of your heart, you’ll obviously need to consume foods which help promote heart health. Take fruits for instance. Fresh fruit is packed full of natural vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other healthy natural goodness that the heart simply adores. For a healthy balanced breakfast that’s immensely great for the health of your heart, why not pour yourself a bowl of organic fresh yoghurt, with a serving of fresh fruits and berries. The antioxidants, the bacteria, and the vitamins will help strengthen not only your heart, but a whole host of other organs as well.
Stay clear of greasy fatty foods – Just because breakfast is so important, that doesn’t mean you’ve got an excuse to eat vast quantities of whatever you like. In many countries, traditional breakfasts often consist of fatty fried eggs, sausages, potatoes, breads, and bacon. Now, whilst tasting nice, these foods are already high in saturated fats, and when you consider the fact that they’re often shallow fried in oil, you’ll soon understand why you should steer clear. If you do feel like a cooked breakfast however, there are low fat, or fat free alternatives to consider. For starters, you can use low calorie sprays as opposed to oils. You can also use brown bread, plenty of veg such as beans, tomatoes, and mushrooms, and low fat, or even fat free cuts of meat and plan egg whites instead. Oils and fats are no good for the heart, it’s that simple.
Never skip breakfast – Studies and research carried out in Harvard found that adults who regularly skipped eating breakfast, were almost 28% more likely to experience a heart attack or suffer from coronary heart disease, compared with somebody who regularly ate a healthy balanced breakfast. The main reason for this is down to the fact that fasting, is actually linked to an increase in blood pressure, which can severely affect the heart. As well as this, fasting for prolonged periods of time without any viable nutrition, also contributes to a decrease in healthy cholesterol, an increase in unhealthy cholesterol, and the formation of triglycerides, all of which are risk factors associated with heart disease.
