How to Kick Stinky Feet

How to Kick Stinky FeetPee-Yew! What is that smell? If it’s coming from your shoes (guys you know who you are) you may have already experienced ridicule from your loved ones or public embarrassment. So why is it that feet smell anyway? Feet stink due to bacteria feeding on the sweat that your feet produce. These bacteria actually eat the waste on your feet in the form of organic acids which have a very strong odor. If you are looking to combat stinky feet there are a ton of different methods out there.

The best way to prevent stinky feet is to wear socks. Unless you suffer from hyperhidrosis or foot odor runs in your genes a simple pair of socks should keep most of your shoes from stinking. Cotton socks are more effective than those with synthetic fibers. Any pair of shoes that you sweat in like your workout shoes should fully dry out before reusing and you should add antibacterial powder or spray to help kill off some of the bacteria buildup. If you exercise frequently you might want to have a few pairs on hand so you can alternate them while the others dry out before the next use.

If basic foot care isn’t enough to fight foot odor there are some other remedies out there. Black tea is known for its cleansing properties. Black tea contains tannic acid which works to kill bacteria and tightens facial pores. Boil a large pot of water and add two bags of tea. Allow them to seep for 5-10 minutes then add it to a tub of  lukewarm water until it reaches a comfortable temperature. Place your feet in the tub for 20-30 minutes to soak. You can also soak your feet in lemon or white vinegar solutions or use disinfecting oils like tea tree or oil of oregano.
