It’s a given that fruits and vegetables help to provide your body with the nutrients to keep it running healthy, but did you know that they can also help to improve your mood as well? In recent studies researchers were able to uncover that adults who ate 7 or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day were happier overall then those who had far less. This probably has a great deal to do with the many mood boosting benefits associated with the foods because of the high amounts of nutrients fruits and vegetables have. This is why it is beneficial eating more fruits and veggies to help boost your mood every day. Of course, 7 servings of fruits and vegetables may seem like a lot, but using the 4 tips below you can help improve your mood easily every day.
Incorporating fruits and vegetables into your breakfast routine isn’t as hard as it seems if you really think about it. If you are a fruit smoothie as a morning breakfast type of guy slip in a vegetable or two such as a serving of spinach or carrot that will not only improve the health benefit of the drink, but give it a bolder flavor as well. If you eat eggs in the morning cut up some of these mood boosting food like tomato and bell pepper and throw them in with your scrambled eggs.
When you have food all for you just to grab and go you are more likely to eat them. When you unload your groceries in your kitchen after shopping take a few extra minutes to chop up and portion out individual servings of fruits and vegetables into baggies that you can grab quickly without having to take the time to do it right then. This will make it easier to incorporate more fruits and veggies into your day because you don’t have to do anything more than grab them and go and day are also great mood boosting food.
Adding vegetables into meals in ingenious ways can help to bump up your fruit and vegetable quota every day such as finely chopping up some spinach and mushrooms then mixing it into the meat for your hamburger, adding some extra vegetables to a pasta sauce besides the standard tomato or slipping them into a favorite soup. By doing this you are able to add more servings of fruits and vegetables to your diet without changing your overall eating habits too much.
Trade your regular snacking staples such as chips, pretzels and popcorn for spicy and freshly baked zucchini chips or frozen grapes. By changing up your snacking habits you can not only improve your mood and health, but possibly find some tasty new treats that can help you maybe loose a bit of weight as well.
