Ravens’ WR Jacoby Jones Latest NFL Star on DWTS

Ravens’ WR Jacoby Jones Latest NFL Star on DWTSFresh off a Super Bowl championship, Baltimore Ravens’ wide receiver Jacoby Jones will be among those competing on this season’s Dancing With The Stars. Jones, who had three touchdown returns during the regular season, has become known for his celebratory antics after scoring.

In the Super Bowl win over San Francisco, Jones returned a kickoff 108 yards for a TD and capped it off with what has become known as the Squirrel Dance. Jones admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he choreographs his post-touchdown routines even going as far as to use them in practice to get an idea of what his teammates think.

“I have my dances and make ‘em up and through the week of practice I do them,” the Raven’s star said. “I do my dance, see what my teammates think and they be like, ‘Yeah, do that.’”

If history is any indication, Jones should fare well on DWTS. Three NFL players have won the competition including Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, and Donald Driver. Both Ward and Driver were wide receivers like Jones. Whether position played has anything to do with success, no one knows, but it appears that Jones will have an edge heading into the competition.

Jones, 28 years old from Baton Rouge, La., was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Originally, Jones had enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University on a track scholarship, but later transferred to Division II Lane College where he became a three-time All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first-teamer.

Ironically, it was Jones’ muffed punt in the 2011 AFC Divisional Playoff game that allowed the Ravens to defeat his Texans. Jones was released by the Texans in 2012 and promptly signed a two-year deal with the Ravens. Now with a Super Bowl ring, Jones’ next task is simple: win the Mirror Ball Trophy as champion of Dancing With The Stars.
